Biography of Mehrdad Bagher

Mehrdad Bagher, owner, was raised in Tehran, Iran, the third family of Oriental rug traders. Having a number of years of experience working with his father in the Oriental rug trading business, he opened his first shop in Tehran after finishing high school. Mehrdad earned a B.A. in Art, managing his shop during the daytime and attending college after business hours.

His interest in education persuaded him to leave Iran and move to Canada, where he attended the University of Regina in Saskalchwan, where he graduated with honors from the Department of Economics. Continuing his graduate studies, he moved to Montreal and attended the University of McGill.

Mehrdad moved to the United States in 1982. He soon opened another rug shop, importing Persian antique rugs from Iran, which he distributed throughout the United States until the time that the U.S. Government sanctioned trade with Iran. For the past ten years he has been trading in antique and decorative rugs from all over the world.

He presently owns and operates an Oriental rug gallery in the prestigious Cherry Creek area of Denver, Colorado. He is a candidate for membership in the American Society of Appraisers and he has successfully completed the following courses offered by A.S.A.

Care and Cleaning

Cherry Creek Oriental Rugs offers professional cleaning, repair and appraisal for new and antique oriental rugs and Native American blankets. We will also pick up and deliver rugs for cleaning services. Here are some helpful tips to keep your rug looking beautiful:

• Keep the rug out of direct sunlight. Rugs are best placed in rooms with some shade; direct sunlight will fade the rug's dyes and patterns.
• Rotate the rug on a regular basis to prevent uneven wear.
• Shake the rug and untangle fringes before they become knots.
• When using a vacuum cleaner on handmade rugs, avoid using the beater bar. This can be turned off on most vacuums. It is best to vacuum in the same direction of the pile or on the nap of the rug to avoid tangles.
• Professional cleaning is always recommended for handmade and antique ones. A professional cleaning can help to protect your rug from possible bleeding and other damages that the steam cleaners or chemical cleaners can cause.
• If you have spills or a spot on the rug, you should remove it quickly. Using a wet paper towel, soak the area and then blot up with a dry towel. Repeat the process of soaking and drying until the spill is completely removed. If a stain remains, you will need to seek professional spot removing services from expert oriental rug cleaners.
• If you have pets, be sure to take care of any urine spots that get on the rug as fast as possible. The chemical in the dog urine can make the rug stiff and requires professional cleaning services.
• Use a pad underneath your rug to protect it from wear and tear.

Repairs and Appraisals

If the fringes on your oriental rugs begin to unravel, it is important to get it repaired before the damage increases. Missing fringes and borders will decrease the value of your rug, not to mention its appearance. Fringe, border, and hole repairs can be done in-house in our gallery.

We are happy to offer a complementary verbal appraisal for your rugs. We are also A.S.A certified for the formal appraisal of the estate or insurance purposes.

Beginner's Guide

When preparing to add a new rug, the first step is to check the room size and area in which the rug will be placed. You can cover most of the floor with a large rug or keep your furniture off of it with a smaller one. Be sure to carefully measure the rug's proposed area. We think the best way to decorate a room is to choose your rug first. If your room is already furnished, please consider the amount of light and color combination between the walls and furniture. It is also important to know what rug style looks the best in your room; traditional, tribal, modern? We have years of experience and will do our best to help you to choose the right rug for your room. We will deliver the rug for you to see in the chosen space to get a better idea of size, color, and style. We have a wonderful selection of fine traditional, quality tribal, modern contemporary and one of a kind antique rugs to choose from. We always educate our clients about the history and quality of the rug they choose. We want you to know as much as possible about the rug you purchase, because buying a rug is an investment - something that you enjoy today and your children will be proud to have in the future.
